The Armenian Defense Ministry has published a video of the alleged "shelling of tanks of the Azerbaijani armed forces on the contact line in Nagorno-Karabakh," on Sunday.

Ruptly was not able to independently verify the footage.

According to the Armenian ministry, at least two helicopters, 14 unmanned aerial vehicles and armoured vehicles of Azerbaijan were destroyed by the troops of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic region. The Azerbaijan Ministry of Defence has denied that information.

The Armenian side also stated that the region was attacked by Azerbaijan from the air and via missile weapons.

According to the press secretary of the Nagorno-Karabakh President Vahram Poghosyan, the Azerbaijani army shelled local inhabitants in the territory of republic on Sunday morning.

The Azerbaijanian Ministry of Defence stated that the country's army does not fire at the civilian population of the Armenian side. In addition, the ministry stated that Armenia was the first side to open fire, in response to which the Azerbaijani forces launched a counter-offensive operation.

According to the reports of the Azerbaijanian department, there are some citizens amongst the victims, after the Armenian side shelled settlements on the contact line.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliev stated in his television announcement that the country will "answer" Armenia's actions. In addition, he said that currently the enemy's positions are being attacked, and military equipment has been destroyed.

In response to Baku's statements, Armenian Defence Minister David Tononyan stated that "the army of the Republic of Artsakh suspends all enemy’s attempts, causing heavy losses to them. He added that "the Armenian armed forces are ready to provide any support to ensure the security of the population of Artsakh."

The Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan announced martial law and a total military mobilisation in the country on Sunday.

"The government of Armenia made a decision to declare a state of martial law announcing nation-wide mobilisation on the territory of the republic. The decision comes into force after its publication. All military personnel assigned to army forces are to be summoned to their military commissariats. In the name of the Motherland, in the name of Victory," he wrote on his Facebook account.

After the escalation of a conflict, the president of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic region, Arayik Harutyunyan, also declared a state of martial law on the territory of the republic.

The Turkish President Erdogan expressed support for the Azerbaijani authorities, and said that "the Armenian leadership is trying to use citizens as puppets. I call on the international community to support the fair position of Azerbaijan, which opposes the policy of occupation and violence."

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called for the "sides to cease fire immediately and to commence negotiations in order to stabilise the situation."

The head of the Russian MFA in dialogue with his Armenian counterpart Zohrab Mnatsakanyan offered mediation attempts to help de-escalate the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. Leaders of France, Austria, Germany and other European countries also called for a suspension of military operations and negotiations.
