The Armenian government announced martial law and a total military mobilisation on Sunday, following clashes in Nagorno-Karabakh.

"The government of Armenia made a decision to declare a state of martial law announcing nation-wide mobilisation on the territory of the republic. The decision comes into force after its publication. All military personnel assigned to army forces are to be summoned to their military commissariats. In the name of the Motherland, in the name of Victory," Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan wrote on his Facebook account.

Footage from the capital of Armenia, Yerevan, shows volunteer fighters gathering at the Republic square, to move to the conflict zone using personal vehicles.

On Sunday, Yerevan announced that the armed forces of Azerbaijan initiated an attack in Nagorno-Karabakh. Baku on the other hand reported Armenia shooting at positions of the army of Azerbaijan and inhabited localities - villages in Teterskiy, Agdamskiy, Fizulinskiy and Jebrailskiy regions.

Armenia stated that Azerbaijan lost two helicopters, three drones and three tanks and that some depletion of ranks are also reported, although the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan denied that information.

After the escalation of a conflict, the president of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic region, Arayik Harutyunyan, declared a state of martial law on the territory of the republic.

The minister of defense of Armenia stated that "the army of Artsakh stops all attempts of the opponent advance causing severe losses to the enemy." He added that "military forces of Armenia are ready to lend any assistance to provide the safety for the people of Artsakh."

The president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliev said that "all international organisations admit the territorial entity of Azerbaijan."

"They [Armenia] are consciously provoking Azerbaijan and they will reap bitter consequences of what they saw," he stated.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation called for the "sides to cease fire immediately and to commence negotiations in order to stabilise the situation." The head of the Russian MFA in dialogue with his Armenian counterpart Zohrab Mnatsakanyan offered mediation attempts to help de-escalate the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh.

The Minister of Defence of Turkey Hulusi Akar declared that Armenia has to immediately cease aggression towards Azerbaijan.
