Belarus: Activists form human chain in support of detained presidential candidate
A number of activists were arrested in Minsk on Friday as protesters formed a human chain in support of a detained presidential candidate.
Police officers blocked the sidewalk and asked demonstrators to end 'the unauthorised rally.' Footage shows at least one man being detained during the event.
People were also seen signing a petition in support of opposition candidate Viktor Babaryko who was arrested a day earlier on tax evasion and money laundering allegations. His supporters say the detention is politically motivated.
The presidential election in Belarus is set to take place on August 9. The incumbent leader Alexander Lukashenko is seeking a sixth term in office.
