Belarus: Police raid house of presidential hopeful Babariko

Police conducted a raid at the home of Belarusian presidential hopeful Viktor Babariko in Minsk on Thursday.

Earlier Babariko’s campaign headquarters said that they had been unable to reach him after he went to hand in signature sheets to the Central Election Commission.

According to reports in Belarusian media, Babariko, the former head of Belgazprombank, was brought to the Department of Financial Investigations of the State Control Committee (KGK) Of Belarus to testify in the criminal case of Belgazprombank.

According to KGK, criminal cases against a number of people associated with Belgazprombank were launched last week. However, the KGK said that Babariko “currently has no procedural status as part of the criminal investigation.”
