Switzerland: Germany to increase resettlement refugee places next year - Maas
German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas criticised the world for not doing enough to tackle the refugee crisis at the Global Refugee Forum at United Nations in Geneva on Tuesday.
Maas condemned the international community for "not finding solutions for the long-term crises and conflicts" that cause the refugee situation.
"The poorest currently carry the heaviest load. Nine out of the 10 biggest [leading] host communities are countries of low and middle income. The only industrialised country in this group is Germany. Just 20 percent of the world's 193 states are in any way meaningfully involved in tending to over 70 million globally displaced people," he added.
Germany vowed to "increase its number of resettlement places next year, once again and this is a trend that we want to continue in the future."
He said that only 25 countries support the resettlement scheme.
