Thailand: Crowds witness King Vajiralongkorn barge procession through capital
Bangkok residents and tourists, many clad in yellow, thronged banks of Chao Phraya river on Thursday, as King Maha Vajiralongkorn travelled down the river as part of a royal barge procession, marking the final event of his coronation.
King Vajiralongkorn was accompanied by Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana and Prince Dipangkorn Rasmijoti. The king's two daughters were on another barge.
The 52-barge flotilla was rowed by some 2,200 oarsmen along the 3.4-kilometre (2-mile) route.
One tourist said that it was "very exciting" to watch the royal barge ceremony, which he said was "once in a lifetime."
King Vajiralongkorn was formally crowned in May. He ascended the throne after his father Bhumibol Adulyadej passed away in October 2016.
