Belgium: Club Brugge keeper 'confident' ahead of Real Madrid clash
Club Brugge goalkeeper Simon Mignolet expressed confidence in his side's chances of beating Spanish giants Real Madrid in the Champions League and of qualifying for the Europa League in the new year. He made the comments at a press conference alongside the team's coach Philippe Clement in Brugge on Tuesday.
"Tomorrow we've got a big game ahead of us in the final stage to qualify ourselves for the Europa League and to play in Europe after the winter break," said Mignolet.
"It's going to be a difficult game against Real Madrid, that's what we know for sure, but we are confident after the game we played in the Bernabeu that we can get the result and we are going to try and get the three points against a tough opponent," he added, referring to his side's 2-2 draw in the Spanish capital earlier this season.
Coach Philippe Clement for his part emphasised that now was the last opportunity for his side to accrue more points in the competition. "We are looking forward to this night; of course we had a good Champions League campaign until now. We didn't get the points that we deserve, we could have got more, so this is the last chance for us in the Champions League to get more points," he stated.
Club Brugge play Real Madrid in the Champions League Matchday 6 group-stage at the Jan Breydel Stadium in Belgium on Wednesday. The Spanish giants have already secured passage to the knockout phase of the tournament and will finish second in Group A regardless of the outcome tomorrow evening. The Belgian club meanwhile are out of contention for progress in the Champions League but are seeking qualification to the Europa League in the second half of this season by finishing third in the group.
