Former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's ex-spokesperson Moussa Ibrahim commented on the level of then government's transparency and the reasons for the Libyan Civil War, in an interview with RT UK's Going Underground host Afshin Rattansi in Berlin, which was released on Saturday.

"We were very transparent, we allowed all hard questions to be asked," said Ibrahim stressing: "we never lied, we always told the truth as, of course, we believed and as we saw it."

Commenting on his role as Gaddafi's spokesperson, Moussa called himself "the voice for the Libyan resistance movement" at the time of the Libyan Civil War, adding that he "wasn't alone and had support, love and the expertise of thousands of young Libyan graduates and media personalities and intellectuals," who still "work hard to fight for the liberation of the country, for freedom and independence of Libyan people."

Answering the question about the possible reasons for the war, he mentioned "internal weaknesses and failures of the system."

"We needed to develop our political system, our economic system to be more inclusive, less centralised. We succeeded with this in the 70s, 80s and 90s, but in the war and the years leading to the war we made some mistakes. We centralised the economic power, we centralised some of the economic power, because we were pursuing a developmental programme that was different to the years before," stressed Moussa.

Years after Gaddafi was toppled in 2011 Libya still remains a battlefield with UN-recognised Government of National Accord (GNA) and the Libyan National Army (LNA) of General Khalifa Haftar fighting to gain control of the territories.
