Indonesia: Students clash with police as nationwide protests go ahead
An anti-government protest in the Indonesian port city of Surabaya turned violent on Thursday with activists throwing stones at riot police.
The rally is part of the nationwide demonstrations against major changes to the criminal code and attempts to strip the country's anti-corruption agency of some of its powers.
Protesters called on Indonesia's parliament to cancel the planned amendments that would criminalise adultery, sex outside of marriage and the promotion of contraception.
One student was reportedly killed during a similar protest in the city of Kendari on Thursday.
