Israel: Netanyahu hopes for more cooperation with Russia ahead of Sochi trip
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu talked about the goal of meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin as he was boarding his flight to the Russian city of Sochi in Tel Aviv, on Thursday.
"This is a very important trip," he said. "It is important that we continue to maintain freedom of action for the IDF, including in the air force, against Iranian Hezbollah and other terrorist targets. This trip is designed to continue this important cooperation, which prevents collisions between us and the Russian forces," added the Israeli leader.
He stressed that Israel and Russia shared the goal of "the withdrawal of Iran from Syria."
Netanyahu's trip to Sochi comes five days before snap elections on September 17, as he was unable to form a governing coalition following the last general elections in April.
