China: Beijing-Washington nuclear cooperation unaffected by trade war - official
The trade war between China and the United States won't affect their nuclear cooperation, said Chinese Head of National Nuclear Safety Administration and Vice Minister of Ecology and Environment Liu Hua during a press conference in Beijing on Tuesday.
"In the past 35 years, China-US cooperation in nuclear safety has been friendly and productive with positive results," Liu said. "I am sure that when it comes to nuclear safety, the two governments won't be affected by the trade war."
Liu accused the US of abusing "export control measures" by adding China's biggest nuclear company, the state-run China General Nuclear Power Corp (CGN) to its entity list in mid-August, in effect blocking it from carrying trade with US companies.
"As the US puts sanctions on Chinese nuclear enterprises, Chinese companies are forced to step up their own research and development and improve their own capabilities," Liu continued. "It will probably hurt US companies in the end."
