Germany: CDU's Kretschmer says 'every vote counts' ahead of regional elections in Saxony
Current Minister President of Saxony Michael Kretschmer called on the hundreds of people who attended the final rally of Germany's Christian Democratic Union's (CDU) in Leipzig on Friday to vote in the upcoming regional elections on September 1.
"In this election every vote counts and I know very well that there are many people in Saxony that will vote CDU, perhaps even for the first time," said Kretschmer, who hopes to see a renewal of his mandate.
CDU Party leader and Federal Defence Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer praised Kretschmer, saying he is "a strong piece of Saxony."
The regional elections are set to take place on Sunday in the East German regions of Brandenburg and Saxony.
