Two women and one man have been arrested and jailed on espionage charges, an Iranian judiciary spokesperson announced from Tehran on Tuesday.
The two women, British-Iranian dual national Anousheh Ashouri and Aras Amiri, an Iranian national working for the British Council, were sentenced to 10 years in prison on charges of spying for the UK, while a man named Ali Johari was accused of spying for Israel and sentenced to 12 years.
Iran Judiciary spokesperson Gholam-Hossein Esmaeili said Amiri "was identified because of her connection to the British Council and cultural infiltration in our society, especially via art and also for her subversive activities regarding this matter, and she has been tried at the revolutionary court."
Esmaeili added, "Ali Johari is the Zionist regime's spy, who had an extensive connection with the Mossad Agency for many years through a lot of meetings with various agents of the intelligent service in Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, Macao, Laos and different countries."
