Hong Kong: Thousands of mothers join demo to show support for anti-extradition protesters

Thousand gathered in Hong Kong for a protest, organised by a group of mothers on Friday, in support of the young people taking part in the widespread anti-extradition demonstrations in the Chinese territory in recent weeks.

"We try to keep Hong Kong as a freedom city. It’s an international city belonged to the world. Freedom is not taken for granted. But as a place that we’ve been enjoyed freedom and we respect human rights, I would like to tell the world 'please be concerned about Hong Kong situation', said Amy, one of the protesters.

Footage shows a square packed with protesters holding signs and waving their smartphone lights.

The protests, among the largest in Hong Kong’s history, have seen hundreds of thousands gather in the streets since the end of March, against an extradition bill which would allow people to be extradited to the mainland to face trial.

Although the bill has since been suspended, the largely youth-led protests have continued with protesters calling for it to be withdrawn entirely and for Hong Kong's Chief Executive Carrie Lam to resign.
