Iran's First Deputy Parliament Speaker Masoud Pezeshkian praised Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) for downing a US drone in the Persian Gulf on Thursday, at a session in Tehran on Sunday.
"What Iran's IRGC did two days ago was a firm response to the rants of the criminal US," said the senior MP during his address in an open parliamentary session.
Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran's resistance in the face of "US's threats" to which the MPs responded with the chants of "death to the US".
After the downing of the drone, US President Donald Trump reportedly cancelled a retaliatory airstrike at the last minute, which he says would have killed 150 people.
Tensions have been escalating after Iran announced in May it was partially withdrawing from the Joint Comprehensive Plane of Action (JCPOA) also known as the Iran nuclear deal after US unilaterally left the deal in 2018, imposing new sanctions on Iran.
