02:41Germany: Russian bikers honour fallen Soviet soldiers on Victory Day
The Russian biker club, the Night Wolves, paid their respects to fallen Soviet soldiers and veterans of the Second World War at the Soviet War Memorial in Berlin's Tiergarten on Victory Day on Thursday.
The bikers arrived on their motorcycles alongside many Russian nationals who were also celebrating the anniversary of the capitulation of Nazi Germany to the Soviet Red Army. They laid wreaths of flowers at the memorial, which was erected to commemorate Red Army soldiers, particularly the 80,000 who died during the Battle of Berlin in 1945.
At the monument, Night Wolves spokesperson Andrei Babrovski praised Soviet forces for attaining victory over the Nazis.
“It was predominantly the blood of the Russian soldier - although there were Poles, Slovaks and Czechs and many others, but it was predominantly the Russian soldier extinguishing the Nazi blaze with their blood," he said.
A number of commemorative events celebrating the 74th anniversary of the official capitulation of Nazi Germany at the end of World War II, are taking place in 28 Russian cities and at location across the world.
