The Moscow Victory Day Parade kicked off on the Red Square on Thursday, marking the 74th anniversary of the official capitulation of Nazi Germany to the Soviet forces in 1945.
As the Banner of Victory and the Russian flag appeared on Red Square, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Ground Forces Oleg Salyukov reported to Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu that troops are ready for the Victory Day parade. Shoigu and Salyukov then rode the brand new Aurus convertible to greet the troops.
More than 13,600 servicemen and 130 pieces of military equipment are taking part in Moscow's Victory Day Parade. The traditional military aircraft flyover was cancelled at the last minute due to thick clouds over the Russian capital.
Hundreds of commemorative events are to be held in Russia and around the globe to mark the anniversary of the official capitulation of Nazi Germany to the Soviet forces in 1945.
