Thousands of troops and military equipment paraded through Moscow's Red Square on Tuesday in the final rehearsal for Victory Day celebrations in the city on May 9.

Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu participated in the final rehearsal, being driven to greet the troops on the brand new Aurus Senat Cabriolet. The Russian luxury vehicle has been specifically designed to be used during military parades.

After Shoigu greeted the troops, different divions of Russia's Armed Forces marched through the square followed by columns of military hardware. The parade rehearsal finished with a flyover of Russian military aircraft.

The dress rehearsal is supposed to be as close to the actual parade on May 9 as possible. More than 13,600 servicemen, 130 pieces of military equipment and 74 aircraft are expected to take part in Moscow's Victory Day Parade.

Hundreds of commemorative events are to be held in Russia and around the globe to mark the anniversary of the official capitulation of Nazi Germany to the Soviet forces in 1945.
