Finland: No one in Venezuela supports 'reckless military resolution' – Lavrov after Pompeo talks
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held a press briefing in Rovaniemi on Monday following talks with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on the sidelines of the Arctic Council ministerial meeting.
"We discussed issues regarding strategic stability. I think we made a good step forward in developing those discussions which took place between Presidents Putin and Trump via phone a couple of days ago," the foreign minister said.
On the Venezuelan crisis, Lavrov said that Moscow is "categorically against military actions" in the country.
"Only UN Security Council can authorize the use of power, or the power can be used in response to aggression against a sovereign state. Nothing like this is observed in Venezuela," he concluded.
The 11th Arctic Council ministerial meeting is being held in the town of Rovaniemi between May 6-7. The meeting brings together ministers from eight Arctic States to discuss the sustainable development and environmental protection in the Arctic.
