The FC Zenit football team was seen cheering and celebrating on their plane and on a bus on their way to the Pulkovo airport in St. Petersburg, at the moment they received a message informing them that they had become the next Russian champions, on Saturday.
The St. Petersburg team received the news from the pilot. Fans welcomed the FC Zenit players at Pulkovo airport and flooded the streets of St. Petersburg, lighting red torches and cheering.
Zenit drew 1:1 playing away against FC Akhmat Grozny, picking up 58 points as a result. Moscow's Lokomotiv was the second in the championship table at that moment. Having lost to Tula's Arsenal 2:0 on Saturday, Lokomotiv lost their chance to compete with Zenit.
