Uzbekistan: Russia stands for drug-free world – Lavrov
Moscow supports creating a drug-free world based on strict following of the anti-drug conventions, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in Tashkent on Friday, speaking at the 11th meeting of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Sub-Regional Drug Control Cooperation.
"Together with the majority of the UN members we are convinced in the necessity of strict following of these conventions," said Lavrov.
The Russian top diplomat mentioned that Moscow had reaffirmed its position on the actions against drug circulation at the 62nd session of United Nations Drugs Commission in March 2019.
He also pointed out the urgent need to "ensure the peace and stability within the wide Eurasia territory" in order to eradicate drug smuggling and laundering of money earned from drug trade.
"This task is essentially important for our efforts to destroy terrorism funding coming from the drug proceeds," Lavrov concluded.
