USA: White Helmets and Jabhat al-Nusra preparing provocations in Syria – Ambassador Antonov

United States, Washington DC

Russian Ambassador to the USA Anatoly Antonov said that the White Helmets organisation in collaboration with the Jabhat al-Nusra militant group are preparing another provocation with the use of chemical weapons in Syria’s Idlib Province. He made the comment at a briefing in Washington DC on Monday.

Antonov went on to say that the goal of the attack is to “accuse the Syrian Army of using poisonous substances” and “discredit the Syrian authorities.”

“The best-case scenario for the terrorists would be to force their Western sponsors to launch illegitimate strikes on Syrian territory,” Russian diplomat concluded.

The White Helmets claims to be a group of volunteer rescue workers who help Syrians respond to attacks and carry out rescue operations. The organisation, however, has been criticised by the Syrian and Russian governments for supporting terrorists and staging provocations involving chemical weapons in Syria.
