Italy: Monument to Italian YPG fighter vandalised with swastika on Liberation Day
A plaque in honour of Italian YPG member who died fighting IS was vandalised with a swastika in the early hours of Italy's Liberation Day.
Community members banded together to remove the graffiti and clean the monument dedicated to Lorenzo Orsetti in Turin on Friday.
A series of similar incidents were reported across the country on Liberation Day.
The commemorative plaque was first laid by Orsetti's comrades on April 8. It was located near the local headquarters of far-right organisation Legio Subalpina.
Orsetti, 33, was an anti-fascist from Florence who volunteered to fight for the People's Protection Units (YPG) against the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL). He was reportedly killed in combat on March 18.
