Spanish police found the bodies of a German woman and her ten-year-old son in a cave on the Canary island of Tenerife on Wednesday.
The boy's father, also a German national, was arrested after his other son, 5, reportedly said he had escaped when the man had taken the family to a cave and attacked them.
The search operation was launched on Tuesday, involving over 100 workers.
