
Russia: Director Kirill Serebrennikov released on bail
Moscow City Court released Russian theatre and movie director Kirill Serebrannikov on bail on Monday, after he had spent a year and a half under house arrest on embezzlement allegations.
According to the court decision, Serebrennikov is under travel restrictions and is not allowed to leave Russia.
Besides Serebrennikov, two other suspects, producer Yuri Itin, Russian Ministry of Culture ex-employee Sofia Apfelbaum were released on bail.
Serebrennikov was detained on August 2017 with three other people on charges of misusing 133 million roubles (€1.75mn, $2mn) of state funds allocated for the Platform project between 2011-2014.
During the interrogation, Serebrennikov said that an initiative to create Seventh studio was put forward by the Russian Ministry of Culture.
According to the director, he did not deal with any administrative or financial issues in the company.
