Ecuador: Congressman Aleaga speaks to General Attorney over INA Papers involving President Moreno
Ecuadorian Congressman Ronny Aleaga was summoned by the Attorney General in Quito on Thursday, to present his case over an investigation of an offshore bank account linked to Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno.
Aleaga is following a leak of information over the alleged creation of Moreno brother's INA Investment offshore company. The leak, dubbed the "INA Papers," allegedly exposed the luxurious and extravagant lifestyle of the presidential family abroad, paid for with bribe money.
"[I am here] to demand the General Attorney make the INA Investment bank account, in Balboa Bank of Panama, public. We know it is under investigation, it's number is 10041071378. That is the bank account that has to be opened, so you will find all the information regarding the bank transactions that link [to] the presidential family," said Aleaga before entering the building of the General Attorney.
He also accused the government of trying to put pressure on him. "On April 1st the Ecuadorian ambassador, Galo Enriquez, reached out to my lawyers in Panama, with threatening behaviour and requested information regarding the petition I placed in the Panama judicial system."
The leak reportedly came from the hacked cellphones of Moreno and his wife and contain thousands of photographies and text messages. Moreno has accused WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange of the leak.
