Iran: 'We can expect a stab in the back' from European leaders - Khamenei

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei marked the first day of the new Iranian calendar year 1398, addressing a large gathering of pilgrims at the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad, on Thursday.

"Our situation in terms of defensive facilities, thank God, is almost better and higher than every country in this region. Our foes are emphasizing it and confess it in order to make it as a tool to put pressure. However, it will not happen. We will continue to strengthen the defensive ability" he said.

He criticised European countries that "stabbed Iran in the back" with regard to the JCPOA nuclear deal and added that Western "politicians are wild humans from inside to the true sense of the word. Do not be confused about it. Yes, they wear suits and ties, they wear perfume and have briefcase, but they are wild."

Khamenei further criticised the Saudi regime, saying "I do not know any state in this region, or maybe anywhere in the world, worse than the Saudi regime. It is a despotic, dictatorial, corrupt, tyrannical and dependent regime. They [US government] provide such a regime with nuclear infrastructure. They announced that they would build a nuclear plant for it. They announced they would build missile producing sections."
