Italy: Inter manager Spalletti praises team after beating arch rivals Milan
Inter Milan manager Luciano Spalletti praised his players for their 3-2 victory over city rivals AC Milan. Spalletti made the comments at a post-match press conference in the San Siro on Sunday.
The victory comes just a few days after Inter were kicked out of the Europa League by Eintracht Frankfurt.
"The players have interpreted it well, not allowing themselves to be intimidated by what happened previously and all the things that were said in the public," said Spalletti.
AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso defended his tactical choices, saying they lost because of an "error in attitude."
"I think that the traits [of the players] should be taken into consideration. There are players suitable to play a certain type of football. And this was our problem today. It was not a managerial problem," said Gattuso.
Inter took a two goal lead thanks to goals either side of half-time from Matias Vecino and Steven de Vrij. Tiemoue Bakayoko gave AC Milan a lifeline, but Lautaro Martinez hit back shortly after with a penalty. Mateo Musacchio scored what ended up being a consolation goal for AC Milan.
Inter now leapfrog their city rivals into third position in Serie A.
