Syria: At least 19 reported dead as vehicle hits landmine in Al-Salamiyah
At least 19 people were reportedly killed in the Wadi al-Atheeb area of the western Hama province on Sunday, when a bus carrying workers hit a bomb allegedly planted by IS militants at the Al-Salamiyah countryside.
According to Syrian state agency SANA, the vehicle was carrying farmers to the countryside. The wounded were transferred to Salamiyah and Hama hospitals where they were treated for different levels of injuries.
"Today, a lorry filled with workers heading to work exploded by a mine, 19 citizens died and seven were wounded, some of them are in serious conditions: lost limbs, broken bones, shrapnel, and splenectomy," Nasih Eisa from Salamiyah Hospital said.
A man who witnessed the explosion demanded "these mines to be removed," while he said that the victims were "humble and poor people," most of them working "as field farmers."
