Venezuela: ‘Hands Off Venezuela’ concert held across border from Branson’s ‘Venezuela Aid’
Thousands of Venezuelans attended a ‘Hands Off Venezuela’ concert in Tachira on Friday, across the border from the Richard Branson-organized aid concert taking place in Cucuta, Colombia.
Footage shows massive crowds at the event, which stands in opposition foreign intervention in the country.
The situation in Venezuela escalated when opposition leader Juan Guaido declared himself interim president on January 23, and was immediately recognized by the United States among other countries. An aid package was announced on January 24. However, Maduro’s government started blocking the border on February 7 to prevent the food and medical supplies, which it says are poisoned, from entering the country.
Both concerts, in Tachira and Cucuta, are taking place on the eve of a scheduled attempt by volunteers to circumvent blockades at the border and deliver aid on Saturday.
