US President Donald Trump commented on the evolving situation in Venezuela during a cabinet meeting in Washington DC on Thursday, taking the opportunity to knock socialist ideology.
"Well, it's a very sad situation, that was the richest state in all of that area, that's a big, beautiful area, and by far the richest. And now is one of the poorest places in the world. That's what socialism gets you," Trump said.
He associated the situation to the proposal of some Democrats Congressmen to raise taxes on high earners, saying: "They can't do it for 70 per cent, it's going to be probably twice that number, but maybe more importantly what happens is you really have to study, take a look at what's happened to Venezuela."
