Russia: Lavrov reflects on 2018's 'complex' political arena in annual press conference
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reflected on the ‘complex’ political arena in 2018 during his annual press conference in Moscow on Wednesday.
“Last year, the chance of conflict grew, mainly owing to the stubborn desire of some Western countries, led by the US, not to accept the objective reality of the multipolar world, as well as their attempts to impose their will through military, economic and propaganda means,” he said.
“The unilateral action of Washington aimed at breaking some of the most important international legal instruments designed to ensure strategic stability also gave no reason for optimism,” Lavrov added.
“We took advantage of the consolidation of positive trends on the world arena to look for collective solutions to issues affecting all countries, based on international law, and, in the end, we endeavoured to restore a fairer, democratic, representative, polycentric world order as is required by the objective realities of the modern world,” Lavrov said.
Reportedly, more than 500 media representatives have been accredited for the large press conference at Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
