Spain: Boat with 310 migrants reaches port of Algeciras
A vessel run by the Spanish NGO 'Proactiva Open Arms' docked in the southern port city of Algeciras on Friday, carrying more than 300 migrants rescued off the coast of Libya a week ago.
The migrants were received by Red Cross workers, who provided them with food, clothes and medical assistance.
"The EU cares more about countries taking economic austerity measures than following the international agreements to which they are subscribed. I find it immoral and shameful," commented the head of the NGO, Oscar Camps.
"And this is the bad side that we are facing - feeling satisfaction about saving the lives, but also the deception from not having support or even being legally prosecuted," he added.
According to reports, the group of rescued migrants included people from Somalia, Nigeria and Mali with pregnant women, children and babies among them.
Police will identify the migrants before transporting them to shelters.
