Argentina: Putin says he ‘updated’ Trump about Kerch Strait incident
Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the Kerch Strait incident and contacts with US President Donald Trump, speaking at a press conference following the G20 summit in Buenos Aires on Saturday.
Trump cancelled bilateral talks at the summit between him and Putin over the Kerch Strait incident, in which three Ukrainian navy vessels were impounded by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) after they violated Russian waters.
Putin said that he and Trump and briefly discussed the incident, saying that he had "updated" the US leader on the issue, adding "He has his own view on these issues, I have mine. Anyway, each of us keeps to his own view."
Despite the heightened tension between Moscow and Kiev, Putin said Ukraine and Russia still maintain "working contacts" with each other.
He as well said Russia was not going to retaliate on Ukraine's decision to ban entry into the country from Russian males aged 16 to 60, saying "On the contrary, we will follow the path of liberalisation of Ukrainian citizens' stay on our territory and the liberalisation of obtaining Russian citizenship for them if they want it."
