Iran: 'About 40 ISIS leaders killed in missile attacks on Syria' - army officials

About 40 'leaders' of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) were allegedly killed in Iranian missile attacks on militant positions in Syria on Monday, said Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh speaking from Tehran on Tuesday.

The missile attack was a retaliation for the deadly Ahvaz attack.

"About forty ring leaders of ISIS had been killed, specifically that the commander of the Mosul regimen, who is an Iraqi national, was among the dead," said Hajizadeh.

"To the countries supporting these terrorists, especially the UAE and Saudi Arabia and the US, I am giving this warning: there is a limit to our officials' tolerance," he added.

On September 22, gunmen opened fire from behind the stands of a military parade in Ahvaz commemorating the 38th anniversary of the eight-year Iran-Iraq war. A total of 25 people were killed and 60 injured, making it the deadliest terror attack the country has faced in almost a decade.

Iran's (IRGC) launched six ballistic missiles from an area close to Kermanshah, targeting militants in Abu Kamal in the Deir ez-Zor Governorate of eastern Syria early Monday morning.
