'Deaddy bears' comfort grieving families after death of beloved ones

Elisabeth Barker alias Elisabeth Sews was presenting her so called memory teddies, which are made out of clothes from deceased family members or friends, in Bridgend on Monday.

Elisabeth Barker, the real name of the creator of the brand, can create the teddies out of almost any piece of clothing, which includes ties, trousers, shirts and jumpers and also can add the ashes of a beloved one into the teddy bear if wanted by the costumers.

"Any piece of clothing I can try and make it into a bear, sometimes people will ask me if they can put the ashes of the person who has deceased inside the bear and I have done that a few times for people as well if that's what they would like me to do," she said.

She makes teddy bears or cushions or any stuffed animals, upon request. Most of the teddy bears help children to deal with a loss and help them to sleep well again.

One of Elisabeth first customer, Karen Steggies, shared her memory of when she gave teddy bears made out of her father clothes to her nephews: "When I met the boys with their bears, my nephew hugged his bear straight away. He had a smile on his face, which we haven't seen in a while and he was like, this is like having one last cuddle with grandpa again."
