South Africa: Fishermen riot over missing colleague in Cape Town
Fishermen clashed with riot police in Hout Bay, south of Cape Town on Sunday, after a fellow fisherman had gone missing two days earlier, who they believe was killed by police officers in an anti-poaching operation.
Protesters hurled stones and sticks at the police officers, who in turn responded with tear gas.
The protesting fishermen also reportedly set alight two factories in the area.
Twenty-five-year-old Deurick van Blerk was reportedly last seen on Friday evening, when he set out to sea on a vessel with two other men, for reasons as of yet unknown. Reportedly, the two men were later seen returning without van Blerk on board.
