Barcelona taxi drivers started a two-day protest in the city on Wednesday to demonstrate against the use of ride-hailing apps, and to oppose the suspension of laws that limit their use.

Demonstrators lit firecrackers and honked car horns as they marched through the city to demand higher ratios of cab licenses to those given to users of ride-hailing apps such as Cabify and Uber.

Uber and Cabify reportedly temporarily suspended their operations in Barcelona during the protest due to safety fears.
