Former Denmark and Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel criticized Lionel Messi's perfromance in the World Cup Group D encounter with Croatia, speaking from Saint Petersburg, Thursday.

"We talked about the big players, the big stage, when you come to these big events like the World Cup, the big players, they perform", said Schmeichel. He went on saying: "Today, Messi, who is a big player, didn't turn up again, like he didn't in the game against Iceland."

He praised Croatia as they scored three unreturned goals: "I'm not sure it was a horror movie, why do we care so much about Argentina? We should praise Croatia for what they did tonight."

Argentina now must win their last game against Nigeria and hope other results in the group go their way to qualify for the knockout stage of the tournament.
