Iran: Zarif dismisses Pompeo's new demands as 'hallucinations'

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the US was alone in deserting the Iran nuclear deal, dismissing US's Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s new set of demands outside the Joint Comprehensive Plan of action (JCPOA) as he answered journalists’ questions during a presser in Tehran on Wednesday.Zarif dismissed Pompeo’s demands as "hallucinations" as he went on to criticise US’s Secretary of State’s remarks as "bullying.""Their so-called 'crippling' sanctions that even enjoyed international support, nevertheless failed to create schism among the Iranian nation," said Zarif praising Iranians for “standing tall against their [the US’s ] spurious claims.”In accordance with his recent attempts to rally the European parties of the accord in Iran’s favour, Zarif added, “the economic achievements of the JCPOA which got mired with the US withdrawal, should be made up for by the remaining parties.”Zarif also dismissed reports that further negotiations would encompass anything other than the terms of the JCPOA saying that, "they [the Joint Committee members] are indeed going to give us a package, but one that falls within the JCPOA, not any other issue."The US has withdrawn from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, under which Iran stopped producing enriched uranium and handed over the majority of its stockpile in return for the lifting of sanctions. The remaining participants - Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China - are meanwhile exploring ways of keeping the deal alive.
