Twelve bodyguards were seen running alongside a limousine carrying North Korean leader Kim Jong-un as he drove away from the morning session of the Inter-Korea summit in the DMZ's 'peace village' Panmunjom on Friday.

Kim Jong-un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in are expected to discuss denuclearisation, the improvement on inter-Korean relations and the possibility of easing the sanctions on North Korea in light of a possible peace treaty between the two nations.

Relations have been fraught between Pyongyang and Seoul since the 1950-1953 Korean conflict, which ended with an armistice but without a peace treaty ever being signed.

The Pyeongchang Winter Olympics seemingly encouraged a thaw in relations on the peninsula, after a year of heightened tensions over the North's nuclear and missile programs.

Kim Jong-un is the first North Korean leader since the division of the two nations in 1945 to ever cross over to the South.
