UK: Fishermen burn boat in protest over Brexit transition deal

United Kingdom, Whitstable
April 9, 2018 at 01:41 GMT -00:00 · Published

British fishermen gathered to protest the UK's transition deal with the European Union in Whitstable on Sunday.

Fishing vessles drew up near the shore and set off flares, while protesters on land set fire to a boat adorned with European Union flags. Similar protests were staged in five other locations around the country.

The protesters take issue with the decision to uphold the 'Common Fisheries Policy' as part of the Brexit transition deal, holding the British fishing industry under European law for an additional 21 months without the ability to veto.

The demonstration was organised by Fishing For Leave, a British pro-brexit fishermen organisation.
