15-year-old entrepreneur with cerebral palsy granted stall by Tbilisi Mayor

Tbilisi locals and tourists flocked to the Georgian capital’s Mziuri Park on Wednesday to meet and greet street vendor Gigi Antadze, a 15-year-old juice maker with cerebral palsy, working behind his new booth.

Gigi was recently on the verge of losing his business as street trading at his previous location was banned. His story was then picked up by local media and got the attention of Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, who granted Gigi the booth at one of the capital’s parks.

“As soon as they forbid street trading at Rustaveli street, my mom appealed to the authorities via social media. And the mayor’s office granted me a place here. Now I have my own booth. It is called Gigi’s juices,” said Gigi.

"If only everyone could find such strength in oneself and do what he has done, and live. This is great happiness. I admire him," said a tourist and customer, with another adding that "Society loves him, he is of great interest now. Even those people without health problems are too lazy sometimes to do something."

The young man took his first steps as a street salesman at the age of 13, after he persuaded his mother to let him work and establish his booth on one of Tbilisi’s central streets.

Selling juice, toys and balloons, he became known as the blue-eyed boy and the pride of his family.
