UK: MP roasts 'liar' Boris Johnson for hasty Skripal conclusion

SOT, reporter: “What about you, along with Jeremy Corbyn, are you worried of being accused of siding with the Russian spin machine with your stance on this?”

SOT, Chris Williamson, UK MP for Derby North: “Well, I know this is a game the conservatives, Boris Johnson, that’s his retort, isn’t it? This isn’t about spin. I mean if anybody is indulging in spin it’s absolutely conservative party and those who indulging this bellicose rhetoric against Russia. We need to go to the bottom. And much evidence, Jeremy said it, seems to point towards Russia. But let’s be absolutely clear before we start raising international tensions in this way, this has huge implications for Britain. And we, therefore, need to be responsible. “

The UK Member of Parliament for Derby North, Chris Williamson, said that the country’s government conveniently used the Skripal poisoning case to divert attention from Brexit, adding that Foreign Minister Boris Johnson lied about the case, in an interview in Derby on Wednesday.

“It was very convenient for the government to use this as a way of diverting attention from their own difficulties over Brexit and, at the end of the day, it’s pretty clear that Boris Johnson did not tell the truth,” Williamson said.

The comments followed recent revelations that Britain's chemical research facility at Porton Down was unable to identify the exact source of the nerve agent.

Recently the UK Foreign Office deleted its tweet where it blamed Russia for the nerve agent attack on the former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia.

Johnson earlier claimed that experts from the Porton Down research laboratory did not have any doubts that the substance was produced in Russia.

Former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia were poisoned in the beginning of March in Salisbury. The UK has blamed Moscow for the incident, while Russia has denied any involvement in the affair.
