      Spain: Diplomat's wife held hostage inside Mali consulate in Barcelona

      Police forces and journalists gathered outside the Mali Consulate in Barcelona on Monday after receiving a call from the Mali diplomat, Jose Luis Lopez Fernandez, warning that his wife was being held hostage inside.

      Elite officers from the Special Intervention Group who work on rescue and anti-terror missions, are on the scene.

      Local police say the kidnapper is originally from Mali and is not armed.
