Russia: Evidence found of Western meddling in Russia election - Zakharova

Russian Federation, Moscow
February 15, 2018 at 20:17 GMT -00:00 · Published

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova held her weekly news briefing in Moscow on Thursday, talking on several topics, including the upcoming Russian presidential election, an Estonian intelligence report purporting Russia as a threat and the Saratov Airlines An-148 plane crash.

"We have information regarding a destructive intervention of the Western countries in our internal affairs in the context of the presidential election campaign," the spokesperson said, warning that if such activities continue, "We will have to take tough counter-measures."

Regarding the Saratov Airlines plane crash, Zakharova said Moscow has, "received messages from dozens of heads of the different states, foreign ministers, the heads of foreign parliaments and international organisations."

Talking about an Estonian intelligence service report where Russia is mentioned as a threat to the country’s sovereignty, Zakharova said that "unfounded allegations regarding the aggressive eastern neighbour in the report cause nothing but confusion. It is sad that instead of objective analysis of the situation, there is a set of ready-made anti-Russian cliche."
