South Korea: US fan explains move to sport Russian flag at Winter Olympics opening *EXCLUSIVE*

Filip Vachuda, an American fan of the Russian Olympic team, explained his motives behind sporting a Russian flag during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games, while speaking at an interview in Pyeongchang on Saturday.

"When I heard that Russia could not watch [the Olympic opening] under their own flag, I felt quite sorry for the athletes. The athletes who are completely clean and had no problems, but they were deprived from the right to represent their country, so I thought that it was important to put out the [Russian flag out there]," stated Vachuda.

He went on to slam the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for being "unprofessional" in regards to the bans that Vachuda said happened too soon before the actual opening of the games, leaving the Russian athletes without an opportunity to properly appeal the decision.

The American fan emphasised that "I was mostly mad because they have worked for four years for these Olympics. And they are being told that [they can't participate in the Olympics]. They [IOC] don't even have any prove, they just have suspicions."

Vachuda posted the photo showing himself sporting the Russian flag during the opening ceremony in Pyeongchang on his Facebook page.

Earlier this week, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced that the appeal of 47 Russian athletes and coaches to participate in the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics was dismissed.
