German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto were filmed toasting with beer at a state dinner in Mexico City on Friday, following their meeting and a joint press conference.
Pena Nieto said that this was the "first toast between two heads of state with beer" and toasted for the prosperity of the German people and Angela Merkel in particular.
While speaking on bilateral relations, Merkel said Europe and Mexico share same problems, in particular the issue of migration. She said: "We can also discuss how we can on one side organise, control, legalise, because there are also smugglers who make money from human trafficking, which is the most inhumane thing that can ever happen, but on the other side to do it not in isolation, but together."
Merkel is on an official tour of Latin America ahead of the G20 Summit, to be held in Germany in July.
