Netherlands: Take a subway...to another country - Dutch innovators to test Europe's first Hyperloop

Netherlands, Delft
June 1, 2017 at 17:51 GMT -00:00 · Published

Europe's first Hyperloop facility was unveiled in Delft, Thursday. The latest technology is set to make the commute between European capitals a matter of minutes.Hyperloop creators, Dutch organisation Hardt, in collaboration with TUDelft University of Technology and construction company BAM, hope the Hyperloop will soon become the 5th mode of transportation carrying passengers in driverless pods through low-pressure tubes throughout continents.

"You can travel between the continents just like you're travelling in a big city with the metro, only then it's without intermediate stops. So that would mean that there is a world where distance just doesn't matter, where you have a freedom to live and work wherever you want; where you can just go anywhere anytime," said Hardt CEO Tim Houter.

The award winning team will take on Amsterdam-Paris route among the first aiming to cover the 6-hour distance in 30 minutes. Innovators take special pride in the fact that the hyperloop is "CO2 neutral" branding the technology the most efficient and environmental-friendly the world has seen. First tests are to be launched in the end of 2017 with the first hyperloop line to be up and running by 2019, according to the creators.
