British Prime Minister Theresa May condemned the "appalling sickening cowardice" of the attack at the Manchester arena on Monday night speaking outside 10 Downing Street, London on Tuesday.

"All acts of terrorism are cowardly attacks on innocent people but this attacks stands out for its appalling sickening cowardice, deliberately targeting innocent, defenceless children and young people who should have been enjoying one of the most memorable nights of their lives" she said.

May made the comments following a Cobra meeting at 10 Downing Street. She said police believe they know the identity of the attacker but it remains to be seen if "there turn out to be others responsible for this attack". May will travel to Manchester herself later today.

Police are investigating the explosion which killed 22 people, including children and injured over 50. It is being treated as a terrorist attack, the perpetrator is thought to have died at the scene after detonating an explosive device on his person.

The incident occurred at the end of a pop concert by US singer Ariana Grande as attendees were leaving the premises at around 22.35 local time (21.35 GMT).
